Wildlife Hawaii
People of Hawaii are contributing their time,
money, and effort for a cleaner and longer sustained wildlife. They want to
enhance, protect, manage and conserve Hawaii’s natural and limited cultural and
historic resources for current and future visitors as well as its own people.
With the public and private places partnering, trust for a better future is
ensured.
Hawaii is made up of
2million acres of land and 1.2 million acres of state owned land. It also is a
beautiful place, but leaving it alone and not caring for its reputation the
same. Hawaii has many beautiful flowers and native plants that are so little to
be seen everywhere. We can find these vegetations in tropical forests and
trails. Wild pigs and goats are destroying Hawaii’s land. They like to dig
holes in the ground at native forests and mountainside vegetation. Wild pigs
and goats isn’t all you can find in Hawaii.
Hawaii has many varieties
of different animal life. Even though it lacks land mammals, it is made up of
more birds, insects, and ocean dwellers. There is approximately 44 animals and
273 plants that is endangered and many of them close to extinction. Among the
birds found here, most are endangered. Some of them include the Hawaiian duck,
Hawaiian Coot, and lysan albatross. Hawaii has only two native mammals left,
the Hawaiian monk seal, and the Hawaiian hoary bat. Overtime, population drops
because these species are hardly anywhere to be found, also it doesn’t produce
more of its own. Seeing a Hawaiian animal is something rare to find everyday.
What protects this wildlife is it’s home. We have to stop destroying or cutting
down the natural forests and ecosystems. Letting this happen will surely
increase extinction time for the native animals.
Many organizations are volunteering
to protect these Hawaiian animals. To protect endangered birds, Hawaii has made
a program called Hawaii’s Endangered Bird Conservation Program. What this
program does is that they try to take out predators and parasites. This will
protect them by not having to be a meal by other animals. Doing this doesn’t
also protect birds, but also other wildlife such as different mammals and
plants. The U.S. and Hawaiian government has also enforced strict hunting laws,
educating, and working with private land owners and organizations. These laws
will play against those who involve with these ecosystems. Similar rules and
regulation also were made for the Hawaiian Monk seal. Keeping visitors or
people from killing, disturbing, and swimming with them
We have to continue to
protect what we have if we want Hawaii to stay natural and beautiful to all
people. If people, predators, or other natural killing species doesn’t destroy Hawaii,
then the climate changes will. We need to stay alert to what happens in these
islands.
